Cyber Crime Units Around The Globe www.4law.co.il Danino officially sworn in as chief of Israel Police By YAAKOV LAPPIN AND JPOST.COM STAFF 01/05/2011 New chief takes over from outgoing Inspector-General Cohen at ceremony in J'lem; Netanyahu: He must protect citizens from organized crime. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch officially made Yohanan Danino the new inspector-general of the Israel Police on Sunday. Danino replaced outgoing police chief David Cohen. The ceremony took place at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem. At the ceremony, the prime minister said that as the new police chief, Danino must protect the citizens of Israel against organized crime syndicates who have become more sophisticated through the use of new technology. Danino accepted the promotion, saying that "a big challenge stands before me." The new police chief comes from the world of investigations, where he oversaw the interrogations of senior public officials, and helped introduce new technology for combating organized crime. From 2006 to 2008, Danino, 51, was commander of the police's Investigations and Operations Branch, and ran the investigations on a number of high profile cases including those concerning: • Former prime minister Ehud Olmert (on trial for three major cases, • Former president Moshe Katsav (due to begin a sevenyear prison sentence for rape), • Former finance minister Avraham Hirchson (serving a prison sentence for public ...
