Armenian-Americans March for Justice to Demand Recognition of the Armenian Genocide Unified Young Armenians (UYA) have organized a demonstration demanding the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Republic of Turkey. Hollywood, CA, Sunday, April 24, 2011 -- As a result of the tireless efforts of UYA and its substantial planning and coordination, the streets of Little Armenia in Hollywood, CA, will resonate with the voices of thousands of people demonstrating. All participants will be calling for the United States of America and the Republic of Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The protest will take place on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at 9:30 AM. It will commence at the intersection of Hollywood and Hobart Boulevards, in the area known as Little Armenia. Among the participants are genocide survivors, high ranking politicians, human rights activists, government officials, and intellectuals. Prominent and influential members of the community have been invited to participate and speak at the closing ceremony. 96 years ago, on April 24, 1915, the Armenian Genocide was carried out by the Young Turks of the Ottoman Empire. It was the first genocide of the 20th century and served as the prototype for genocides following thereafter. The mass extermination and systematic annihilation of Armenian citizens living in the Ottoman Empire resulted in the massacre of 1.5 million innocent Armenian men, women, and children.
