In conjunction with the 'wear purple' events that had been organized on October 20th, 2010 in memory of the recent GLBT suicides, I (with help from friends, Hamburger Mary's, and Club Basix) organized a candlelight vigil along 1st Ave in Cedar Rapids, IA, with more than 250 attendees. After the vigil, resources and information for at-risk youth were provided by local organizations who gathered at Hamburger Mary's. I gave this speech to the approximately 180 people who gathered at Mary's following the vigil.
