Rome, 9-10 October 2012 - "Prevention Strategy and Policy Makers" is a joint Initiative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Department for Anti-Drug Policies of Italy which aims at disseminating the UNODC International Standards on Drug Use Prevention and supporting policy makers in planning a national drug prevention system that is health-centred and based on scientific evidence. The Initiative will create regional prevention hubs connecting and training policy makers to provide them with the concrete tools to improve their national prevention system, including an archive of effective drug prevention sample programs and materials. The Initiative will initially be active in Central America, Northern Africa, Central Asia and East Asia. The launch of this Initiative is planned on 9 October 2012 in Rome, Italy, with the participation of the heads of national drug control agencies that are interested in joining this partnership with the overall objective to support children and youth in realizing their full potential and reaffirm their commitment for the creation of a society where drugs are not accepted as a way of life.
