"...Tokyo police arrested on Thursday a former sumo wrestler who is suspected of extorting money from sumo wrestler Kotomitsuki, in return for keeping quiet about his illegal gambling activities. The former sumo wrestler is 38-yeasr old Mitsutomo Furuichi, who belonged to the Oshiogawa sumo stable until his retirement in 1997. Furuichi allegedly extorted, in January, about 39000 dollars from the second highest ranking Ozeki Kotomitsuki. Police say Furuichi demanded the money in return for secrecy about Kotomitsuki's involvement in illegal gambling on professional baseball games. Police found that Kotomitsuki tried to collect about 55000 dollars in gamble winnings last December from a sumo wrestler who belongs to the Onomatsu stable. Police say Furuichi, who is an older brother of the Onomatsu stable wrestler, hinted at ties with organized crime members in order to blackmail Kotomitsuki. Police suspect Furuichi demanded from Kotomitsuki an additional 1.1 million dollars, in March. They suspect a person linked to organized crime groups was present when the demand was made..."
