Mandi Bahauddin has become a principality of police. Police officers from
assistant inspectors to inspectors are local residents who have got them
posted in home district with the backing of political leaders. In some cases
they are posted in their own police stations. They care least while
considering complaints of poor public. Yes if one has support of local
MNA/MPA or enough money to grease palm of police, their complaint will be
considered. Otherwise he will keep on making visits to police station and
waste time in a hope to get relief. When grieved over misconduct of SHO or
investigation officers, if one dares to meet in person to DPO he has to wait
outside his office for a long. When the DPO is free from his guests, a
policeman will take the complainant before the DPO who would dispose of the
complaint either referring it to concerned SHO with remarks "take legal
action" or referring his case to conciliation committee for settlement.
Members of conciliation committees are favorite of influential's who will
summon the parties and hold their sessions at their convenience. Normally
their decisions are partial. Police has completely failed to provide
protection to life and property of the poor. Concerned authorities are urged
to correct behavior and conduct of police by taking appropriate measures.
