Memos from Department of Justice operatives directed to Holder himself leave no doubt that the DOJ was receiving constant updates on the Operation as early as mid 2010. During his May 3rd testimony before the Grassley/Issa Congressional Committee, Holder was asked when he had first learned of Operation Fats and Furious. "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Fruious for the first time over the last few weeks," Holder responded. But that was a lie. Documents detailing the existence and progress of Fast and Furious were directed to Holder by Michael F. Walther, the head of the National Drug Intelligence Center and by his own Assistant AG, Lanny Breuer in 2010. A heavily redacted July 5th, 2010 memo from Walther to Holder details the work of the Phoenix Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) working in conjunction with the ATF on Operation Fast and Furious.
