March 25th 2009 Channel 7 news- Gangland investigators have arrested two men this afternoon over two alleged underworld murder plots. A 48-year-old man from Greenvale, Frank Madafferi, has been charged with conspiracy to murder. He has been remanded to appear in court to appear tomorrow. Alleged drug syndicate member Rob Karam, 42, of Kew, was also arrested outside Melbourne Magistrates Court today in front of a media pack. The charge comes after the pair were interviewed over two failed murder plots last year. Purana Taskforce Detective Inspector Bernie Edwards said the first hit was planned for a kickboxing tournament at the Docklands on March 28 last year. The second was supposed to take place at the Reggio Calabria Club in Parkville on July 24 last year. Detective Inspector Bernie Edwards said there were two intended victims and police expected to charge five people with conspiracy to murder, including the two men arrested today. He did not name the intended targets. "Investigators hope to interview a number of people and hope to charge a number of people in relation to this conspiracy,'' Detective Inspector Edwards said. The arrests were the result of a 10-month joint operation by Victoria Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Crime Commission and followed a raid on house in Greenvale this morning.
