Goodfellas (1990) - "A Night at the Club" Steadicam Shot One of the best known Steadicam one-shots; we track Henry Hill (played by Ray Liotta) and his date, Karen (played by Elaine Bracco (Dr. Melfi from the HBO series "The Sopranos")) as they enter the Copacabana nightclub through the back entrance. Tracking through the hallways, kitchen, and eventually the crowd, this shot contains excellent examples of how "dead space" in a shot can creatively be filled. The camera operator was Larry McConkey. The Steadicam is a brand of camera stabilizing mount for motion picture cameras that mechanically isolates it from the operator's movement, allowing for a smooth shot even when moving quickly over an uneven surface. The Steadicam was invented in 1975 by cameraman Garrett Brown, and is now a registered trademark of Tiffen.
