A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Pompeii, Italy by TravelPod blogger Nacrobat titled "Finally...Pompeii" Nacrobat's travel blog entry: "One of my regrets during my last trip to Italy was not having time to make it down to Napoli to see the great ruins of Pompeii. Well finally 17 years later I've come back to Italy and have ventured south of Rome this time to the crazy city originally known as Parthenope and then later Neápolis (New City). It is no doubt a busy, dirty metropolis and at first blush does more to revolt than to seduce but eventually, perhaps after a few days and your senses have become accustomed to the sights, sounds and smells, perhaps then you start to appreciate what Napoli has to offer, liking it for what it is rather disliking it for what it isn't. Oh sure, you can stay in the swanky area and eat out at pricey restos but it would be pretty hard to stay more then a day or two in Napoli and not come face to face with it's dirty underbelly. Of course my view might be a bit skewered now, perhaps a bit on high alert as I try to digest what I've been reading in, "Gomorrah: A Personal Journey into the Violent International Empire of Naples' Organized Crime System" by Roberto Saviano. Really savage stuff man. Anyway, am kind of digging this town warts and all ...
