On March 24, 2009. the FBI announced the break up of a major organized vehicle theft ring operating in 20 states and several countries. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) was credited with helping solve the case which involved stealing some 1000 cars, trucks and SUVs and then "cloning" them and selling them to witting and unwitting buyers.
