Memphis Police Department promotes two to colonel

Two Memphis Police Department majors received promotions to colonel today.Col. Gerald Perry, 51, is a lifelong Memphian who is head of MPD’s investigative services.Col. Clete Knight, 44, who grew up in El Dorado, Ark., is the head of the organized crime unit. Both were promoted to major in 2008.The promotions bring the total number of colonels in the department to 12.
