Sardar Hardit Singh Malik belonged to a leading family of Rawalpindi District in pre partition India .
Being a true aristocrat he was educated in England at a prestigious public school and at Oxford .

Hardit joined the Royal Airforce and was the first Indian to fly an aircraft as well as the first Indian comat pilot.He distinguished himself in the air war against the Germans and Austrians in France and Italy !
He later joined the elite ICS and finally the foreign service and served in key positions .
The Sikhs were the aristocracy of Rawalpindi having conquered it by force of arms in the period 1780-1805.

Such was the jealousy against the Sikhs that communal riots began from Rawalpindi Gujjar Khan and Kahuta in early 1947 as far as Punjab was concerned with the Muslims in the lead.
Was this religious ? It was more social but disguised as religious since the Sikhs were the aristocrats of Rawalpindi.
My grandfathers father had served as an inspector of police at Chauntra and Jatli in Pindi but my grandfather by virtue of serving as an Assistant Secretary of Defence at the Ministry of Defence in Delhi and had built a house in Qaraol Bagh on Faiz Road named after his grandfather.

A cousin of great grandfather Agha Naimatullah an inspector of police had established a school at Gujjar Khan in 1890s which now is a high school or college .
He managed a clean exchange of his house at Faiz Road with a leading Sikh family who owned a couple of cinemas in Pindi . He made sure that the Sikh family who owned the house in Darya Ganj took each piece of their valuables , jewellery etc .
Thus the house at Darya Ganj in Gawalmandi Rawalpindi .Two huge stores were full of cinema tickets when the house was occupied.

The Sikh Cinema owners house at Darya Abad , Gawal Mandi Rawalpindi,now the Darya Abad Girls School.Zinda Khan Mahmood manipulated transfer of this property later as a school in venom against certain rulings of my grandfather while serving as Assistant Secretary of Defence .
The Ministry of Defence unlike other ministries had moved to Rawalpindi at the time of partitition .
Grandfather on eve of retirement from the Ministry of Defence Rawalpindi in 1954 (seated in the centre ).In those days also it was all parochialism and garainbaazi .Thus Ghayur Khan the brother of Sardar Nishtar came into the ministry of defence as a key official without any competitive exams !
How man acts ? Yellow historians will say that Sikhs killed Muslims and then Muslims killed Sikhs in retaliation ? Things were far more complex ?

Today the rich Muslims of Pakistan are what Sikhs and Hindus were in 1947 ! The rich exploit the poor so the hatred now in Pakistan is more class hatred than religious hatred !

This is a collage of memories ! I started with Hardit Singh but as I read more I realised that Hardit Singh Malik was an era ! A result of centuries of strife !
His ancestors must have fought hard and bloody battles to wrest Pindi from the mighty Ghakkars and Muslim Rajputs !

The greatest mystery is that it was the Punjabi Hindus who demanded partition of Punjab in case Muslims were allotted representation in the Punjab legislature as per population in 1920s !
What fools !
That is what finally led to partition !
Without Punjab being with the Muslim League there would have been no partition of India !
The greatest losers of partition were the Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs both monetarily and politically and the greatest beneficiaries were the Punjabi Muslims both monetarily and politically ?

Today the Baloch are facing a war of genocide by Muslims of Pakistan ! Ahmadis are being killed for being Ahmadis ! Punjabis Sindhis and Pashtuns are unsafe in Karachi ! A Punjabi cannot enter Balochistan without threat to his life ! A Shia is more unsafe in Pakistan than in India ! While gunship helicopters were used in Paktika in Afghanistan by Soviets today Pakistani gunship helicopters are spraying fire in Waziristan ?

The question is that Asif Zardari or Pakistans generals or Pakistans ten thousand families are not Hindus or Sikhs but in their greed they are worse than Hindus and Sikhs !
The game was about power and not religion then and the same today !
