Armed Gangs Hindering Peace Plan for Syria
Damascus, May 25 (Prensa Latina) Armed gangs supported from abroad continued today their violent actions to thwart the plan drafted by UN Arab League envoy Kofi Annan to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
   Â
In an area of Homs, 162 km north of Damascus, six people were killed in a bomb attack in a southern neighbourhood of the city of Rableh en al-Qseir, said authorities.
The bomb, planted outside a house, killed a man, his trhree children and another two people in the house.
Meanwhile, in Aleppo, 350 km north of Damascus, two minors were killed and another two persons wounded by shots fired by armed gangs, described by authorities as terrorists.
In Daraa province, in southern Syria, authorities seized a car loaded with weapons, including a rifle, three explosive devices, to hand grenades and a video camera, and also defused a 25-kg bomb planted by armed gangs.
SANA news agency informed the deaths of several terrorists in the wake of a bomb explosion in Freika town, in Jabal al-Zawiya, in northern Idleb province.
Amid an escalation of violence promoted by armed groups, the teams of international observers toured several areas of Damascus, including Maadamiyeh, in Rural Damascus, as well as places in Deir Ezzor city and Aleppo, where they were able to verify the actions aimed at undermining Annan's initiative.
Regarding violence in the country, SANA news agency quotes today press reports revealing that the government of US President Barack Obama is drafting a plan to assist and supply the armed groups through Arab allies.
The quoted source indicated that the United States plans to supply those groups with military equipment, but, according to them, at the same time avoiding that the weapons fall into the hands of al-Qaida or other alleged extremist groups like Hizbollah, which might aim at Israel.
Also according to SANA, a high ranking US intelligence official said to be aware of al-Qaida attacks in Syria, something that does not seem to bother them because the objective, he said, is to create more chaos in the country.
