This is the trailer for a new Yakuza documentary coming out soon, "The Lion of Ginza" is a working title. Short synopsis: The Yakuza, Japan's organized crime syndicates, are a dying breed. Their members are aging and the government of Japan has launched a large-scale crackdown on them to eradicate them once and for all. But who are the Yakuza? The cancer of a nation or a necessary evil in a country with one of the lowest crime rates in the industrialized world? This documentary deals with the struggle of the Yakuza for its survival and the restructuring of the organized crime scene in Japan. Furthermore, unprecedented access to the secret world of the Yakuza gives you an insight on who the Yakuza really are: criminals, outcasts, but also family men and a part of Japanese society. After a long period of research, I was about to give up on this project, but then, out of the blue, things changed with the earthquake in 2011 and opportunities arose. It all happened very suddenly, so there was no time to pitch it anywhere and get the necessary funds, so I took a chance and produced it on my own, using my own money and time, cancelling my other jobs, etc. Now I'm looking for production companies/ TV channels to produce the doc. Shooting is already completed (HD, 25fps, can have a few additions in case) and a rough cut is also already done, which I could show to you in case you're interested (sorry, no private persons, only companies).
