The Soviet Union was the largest, greatest and more beautiful country that ever existed. It may have fallen 20 years ago, but it stays in the heart of every worker and peasant in the world. The Soviet Union was created by the people, for the people in October 1917 (officially in 1922) when the Bolsheviks took power in Petograd (later Leningrad (now St. Petersburg)) after the collapse of the provisional government that succeeded the despot, the Tsar. The newly created Russian SFSR sought to eradicate poverty, wage slavery, hunger, unemployment, gender inequality and many other socio-economic problems that throttled the people of the former Russian Empire under the blood-thirsty rule of the Tsar. Life in the Soviet Union was exceptionally good. Poverty and hunger was eradicated thanks to collectivized farming. The Soviet Union unfortunately went through tough times in the Great Patriotic War between the evil Nazi Germany and the great Soviet Union under the command of Marshal Zhukov and Stalin. Millions died as a result but a major enemy and symbol was defeated for the benefit of the future. In the 1950's and early 60's, Nikita Khrushchev had embarrassed the Soviet Union and the people, so Brezhnev got rid of him in 1964 and restored much of the glory of the Stalin era. Standards of living were at its peak under Brezhnev and the Soviet people flourished. In the 1980's Brezhnev died, so died the next two leaders, Andropov and Chernenko, this led to an era of uncertainty ...

@amsterdam78 No. Because Trotsky was traitor. He wanted to sell Soviet Union to Nazi Germany and start the World Revolution then. He cared about Revolution but not about Russia.
