Central American leaders meet to strengthen regional peace. On Tuesday, July 20, dignitaries from across the region convened in San Salvador for the special Central American Integration System (SICA) summit. Hosted by El Salvador's President Mauricio Funes, the meeting included discussion of such topics as regional security, social policy, climate change and natural disaster alleviation. The summit leaders also voted to approve Honduras' return as a member of the Organization of American States (OAS). Another key focus of the meeting was the development of a comprehensive and coordinated security plan to eliminate illegal drug and human trafficking as well as organized crime.
