March 28th 2008- Channel 7 news A career criminal in Melbourne who murdered a male prostitute who believed he was a vampire has been sentenced to life in jail. The Victorian Supreme Court heard that the man, known for legal reasons as JP, had agreed to give evidence against two policeman allegedly involved in the crime. JP pleaded guilty in the same court last year to the 2003 murder of Shane Chartres-Abbott. Chartres-Abbott, 28, was gunned down in front of his partner and father outside his home at Reservoir, in Melbourne's north, on June 4, 2003. The Supreme Court was told on Friday that the hit on Chartres-Abbott was a "revenge murder" carried out by JP at the request of a friend. "You carried out the murder at the request of a close associate of yours," Justice Simon Whelan said. The murder was carried out because JP's friend said Chartres-Abbott was "an animal and a danger to other females", Justice Whelan said. The court was told JP was allegedly helped by two police officers before and after the murder. When he was murdered, Chartres-Abbott was part-way through a trial in the Victorian County Court on charges he raped and attacked a woman client after telling her he was a vampire who drank blood to survive. He was accused of severing part of the woman's tongue and biting her thigh. The court heard JP had admitted his involvement in Chartres-Abbott's murder to Victorian detectives in July 2006. But he did not identify others involved in the killing until later ...
