MusicNotMischief.com Cops, youth strike common chord for Music! [TPS Web Story] by Kevin Masterman George Brown College students turned up the amplifier with a rockin' Music! Not Mischief fundraiser. Students raised $1000 at a Nov. 19 concert for ProAction Cops & Kids, a charitable organization that links at-risk youth with police officers. Child and Youth Worker program students Nikki Master, Ryan Nick, Christina Anania and Kaitlin Schilling organized the event as part of an assignment to fundraise for a youth organization. "We decided on the concert because basically that's what the organization is all about," Ryan Nick said, after handing off a $1000 cheque at police headquarters on Dec. 8. "We wanted to raise awareness of what they're doing to bring the community together." Nikki Master steered her fellow students to the program because of a personal connection, and having fundraised for them in the past through an annual concert in memory of her friend Tyler McGill. McGill was a budding musician stabbed to death in 2007. McGill had spoken to family and friends about the value of the program before he died. "He was an avid guitar player and he was really good around kids," Master said. "He would have really liked the idea that, instead of kids being on the street or getting involved in gangs, they pick up a guitar instead."
