And now on to Strasbourg, where Members of the European Parliament held a plenary session on Tuesday. President of The European Commission José Barroso charted out the commission's work for the coming 12 months. Here's more. On Tuesday, European Commission president José Manuel Barroso delivered his first state of the union speech before the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. Mr. Barroso says the Union withstood the test of the financial crisis, but a number of key challenges lie ahead. He said Europe has to move forward towards matching its monetary union with a real economic union among its member states. [José Manuel Barroso, President, European Commission]: "This is Europe's moment of truth. Europe must show that it is more than 27 different national solutions. We either swim together or sink separately." Other key challenges include, improving economic governance to prevent any financial crisis in the future and creating jobs for the unemployed. The Commission is planning to propose a "European Vacancy Monitor" later this year to show where jobs are available and what sills are in demand.
