HIAWATHA — Jack Mills grew up to become a Cedar Rapids cop and detective, then a deputy U.S. Marshal who in 1975 helped guard noted Mafia hit man Joe Barboza of Boston who reportedly murdered 26 people and was in the federal witness protection program.
