On Nov. 14, 1957, an unprecedented summit which came to be known as the “Apalachin Meeting” was held at the home of Joseph “Joe the Barber” Barbara in the tiny rustic community of Apalachin, N.Y. What was unusual about this meeting was that it was the very first mass gathering of high-level organized crime figures ever to take place on American soil.
