Paris (dpa) - French President Francois Hollande's Socialist Party will likely win a clear majority in legislative elections Sunday, according to an Ipsos poll conducted for Radio France and released Tuesday.

The poll results suggested that the Socialist Party and its supporters would claim between 249 and 291 seats in the lower house, or National Assembly. Combined with other left-leaning parties, that number would hit 303. A party needs 289 legislators to achieve an absolute majority.

The centre-right Union for a Popular Movement party of former president Nicholas Sarkozy can hope for 255 seats, in a best case scenario, according to the poll. Other affiliated parties would likely get no more than 19 additional seats.

The National Front party of Marine Le Pen could see as much as 14 per cent of the vote, but that would likely translate into no more than three legislators, reported the poll, due to election laws. dpa aha ncs hl
